Abstract

Smartphones and tablets are nowadays more and more complex, and almost all of them include GNSS modules and other sensors for user localization. After the start of Galileo positioning services, the final positioning quality from mobile devices is intended to significantly improve, even in noisy or indoor environments. This paper describes a state-of-the-art of GNSS positioning for mobile devices, and of the problems that may arise in using these devices for precise positioning.
Some precautions and simple statistical processing techniques are also described, to make possible an use of mobile devices for professional applications.
