Abstract

Cartography and new medias

Digital media involved cartography domain during the last years yielding a sequence of changes from the digital cartography to the Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI). This paper assumes the theories developed by Lev Manovich about the new media languages and analyses their consistency in the field of Geographic Information. It explores the continuity of traditional media schemes as well the arising and/or emphasizing of new functions allowed by new media.
